Abstract: In this paper the author sets up an analytic conceptualization of “megaideologies”, rethinking their categorization and their relations with other “megaideologies”. Milan Brdar’s conceptualization and theorethic/analythic approach is fully accepted. This approach divides common ideologies into three megaideological groups based on a certain set of characteristics. Each megaideology; egalitarian, conservative and liberal are graded based on their common characteristics: freedom, solidarity and community. Each of the megaideologies focuses on one of those characteristics the most, and on that basis they are evaluated and categorized in our analysis. The main point of interest of the analysis is the role of socialist, or egalitarian megaideology and its inability to coexist with other megaideologies. This claim is supported in two ways. First, this megaideology is analyzed using Karl Mannheim’s differentiation of ideology and utopia. In the analysis the author claims egalitarian megaideology to be more related to a utopia than an ideology. Furthermore the other two megaideologies are viewed as ideologies par excellence. The second level of argumentation builds on the first in a sense that due to it being a different form of ideology, egalitarian megaideology needs some system of forcing its own existence. This means that, in order for utopian egalitarianism to exist, it needs to employ more of its resources into finding new ways of “being more ideology-like”. Due to it not being an ideology, egalitarian megaideology (in contrast to the other two), and not being able to “exist on its own”, the author claims it can only be viewed as a step toward either liberal or conservative ideology. This character of egalitarian megaideology posts it only as a part of a broader process of coexistence of megaideologies. The main finding of the analysis suggests the author’s conceptualization should be studied further, to identify ideological character of liberal and conservative ideologies, which would lead to a better quality of the conceptualization suggested by Brdar.
