Abstract: This paper investigates the ideological and national dynamics within the Yugoslav conceptual field through an analysis of Miloš Crnjanski’s essays published in the journal Ideje. The focus is directed toward the figure of King Alexander I as the central and integrative pillar of Yugoslavism. By examining the subtle undercurrents of Serbian self-awareness that permeate the terminological designation “ours” (naše), the study elucidates how national identity persists within a supranational framework. Through an interpretation of essays written in the aftermath of the King’s assassination, the research highlights the spectrum of elements constituting Crnjanski’s stance—ranging from a belief in the organic unity of the Yugoslav people to the articulation of a distinct, Serbian national tragedy.
